Job?

February 15, 2006

I possibly have a new job babysitting 4 1/2 kids. Yes, I said 4 1/2. There is a thirteen year old, eleven-year-old, seven year old, a one year old, and a fetus. I posted an ad on local classifieds website and within a couple hours I received an e-mail.

Hello:

I was wanting some more information on your availabilty. We are looking for babysitters on different days of the week so that we can attend trainings or just a night out. We currently have 4 children and a newborn on the way in 3 weeks. We have a 13,11,7 and 1 year old. We live near St. V’s. Would you be interested?

Thanks,
Lori

I replied with this:

Hello Lori!

I am available from 2:30 PM until 10:30 PM Monday through Thursday, 2:30 PM until anytime on on Friday, anytime on Saturday, and from early Sunday until about 10:30 PM. I am great with kids of any ages! I currently babysit a fourteen-year-old, a ten year old, and a three year old. I have babysat these kids for seven years and have experience with newborns.

I should probably note that I am currently seventeen years old. This seems to be a problem with some people but I can assure you that I am responsible. I have references if you would like them.

If you need any more information, feel free to e-mail me or even phone me. My name is Michelle and my phone number is [REMOVED]. I hope to hear back from you soon!

Michelle

I have a feeling I won’t be hearing from Lori again, though. People seem to have a problem with my age. Apparently a seventeen year old is not able to take care of children, even though she has nearly seven years of experience. I bet you could put me, a seventeen year old with great references, CPR knowledge, reasonable price, and who loves children next to a thirty-five year old with no experience, no references, no CPR knowledge, charges $10 an hour, and who hates children and they would choose the thirty-five year old just because she is older. I’m really hoping that I am wrong, though. I would love to have this job!

I dyed more yarn the other night with the Lion Brand Wool-Ease. I used the Grape, Berry Blue, and Raspberry Reaction. The BB and RR looks the same. The Grape looked okay but I used a lot more water than I should have so the color is somewhat muted. My mom really seems to like it, though. I ended up dyeing the entire skein with the Tropical Punch. I love the color! I think I might knit some mittens out of it.

I think I am going to knit Amanda some baby booties, a baby hat, and a baby sweater for Natalie. She is due four months from tomorrow (June 8!) so I have some time to get it done. If I’m really fast and hop right to it I could get it done in time for the baby shower (Either the first or second Saturday in May).

I really can’t wait until Natalie graces us with her presence. Four months seems like such a long time!

Apparently I’m not meant to have a blog/website. I still can’t get to michellealicious. It’s been over two weeks now. Hmph. I with wordpress.com would let you make your own layouts instead of just give you a list of themes to choose from. They’re nice themes but I want to use my own. :(

I’m off to chop some almonds for the hamsters. I love those two little guys (the hamsters, not the almonds.)

YAY for knitting! Post some pictures sometime! I have always wanted to try dyeing yarn with kool-aid.. it sounds really fun. Does it turn your hands all neon colored? haha..

How did it go? Have you heard back? I really hope you get this job, because you could definitely handle it.. I’m not sure why people are so worried, because I’ve babysat since I was.. 12? 13? and people haven’t realy cared about my age.

I see that this entry is pretty old did you hear anything back from those people about the baby sitting job?
It would be a shame to think that your age would prove a barrier in getting jobs, as you have said you have the experience and I am sure you would not charge as much as someone older. I hope you get the chance.

I dont know why people would have a problem with you being 17 (I mean seriously, there’s something wrong with anyone in college wanting/needing a job babysitting ^_~)
